Fenomenul numit televiziune a fost prezent în peisajul românesc înca de la începuturile sale pe plan mondial. Desi apare în timpul celor doua razboaie mondiale, o perioada si un context nu tocmai propice pentru dezvoltari stiintifice, atât pentru spatiul românesc, dar si pentru cel european, televiziunea reuseste sa se dezvolte si sa se impuna în fata altor medii de informare ca de exemplu presa scrisa sau radio .
În România televiziunea a patruns înca din perioada în care aceasta era într-un stadiu incipient si experimental în toata lumea. In 1932, Societatea Britanica de televiziune începe un serviciu experimental de televiziune, iar începând cu 1936 porneste difuzarea regulata a unor emisii TV.
Prima emisiune de televiziune din România care se apropie cât de cât de conceptul actual al întelesului de emisiune, a fost realizata în 1937 la Facultatea de Stiinte din Bucuresti în cadrul unor demonstratii publice.
Astazi exista sute de posturi tv live cu mii de emisiuni difuzate. De curand a aparut si televiziunea de inalta definitie numita HD avand o calitate deosebita iar in scurt timp se va trece si la emisii live tv 3 D.

Live television refers to television broadcast in real time. Videotape did not exist until 1957.
In general live television was more common for broadcasting content produced specifically for television in the early years of the medium, before technologies such as videotape recording appeared. As video recording became more prevalent, many entertainment programs were recorded and edited before broadcasting rather than being shown live. Entertainment events such as professional sports games and awards programs continue to be generally broadcast live. Today tv stattions broadcast experimental in 3D with new technologies.
With recent developments it is looking likely that the technology used will either be Polarization or Alternative Frame Sequencing (the latter is used in both Sony & Samsungs latest 3D TV's).
